Sisters of Light: Music of Hildegard Von Bingen

$10 Tickets available here.

Sisters of Light is a meditative recital experience featuring the soprano voice, piano, synthesizer and ambient guitar drones, and world percussion accompanied by projection art.

This program centers around the work of 12th century polymath Hildegard von Bingen in conversation with the work of 9th century Byzantine nun and composer Kassia and works and arrangements by Moira.

This music encourages the audience to eschew formal recital expectations and instead focus on internal meditation.

This program is perfect for: chapels, art galleries, ampitheatres, multi-use arts spaces, meditative retreat centers, and unusual, intimate venues. It is a solo project and travels easily!

The project was born of a mini-recital tour in winter 2023 that included the solo performance of selections from Hildegard von Bingen’s Symphonia armonie celestium revelationum, hymns from the Byzantine composer Kassia, and accompanied vocal pieces by the 17th century composers Lucrezia Vizzana and Rosa Giacinta Badalla.

The audience at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Denver, Colorado and the standing room-only crowd at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Johnson City, Tennessee spoke highly of the meditative and ethereal nature of the pieces.

The mysticism, poetry, and composition of Hildegard have long inspired Moira’s own works, so to create a solo meditative experience was a natural next step. The program grew fully into the ‘Sisters of Light’ repertoire.

This material is available as a recital program at your institution or venue, and my first Hildegard-centric album, A Trembling Flame, is now available!
