Monthly Journeywork Circle with Dr. Christina Velderman

Monthly Journeywork Circle

Journeywork is a spiritual practice in which participants alter their consciousness through classic shamanic non-drug techniques such as sonic driving, especially in the form of repetitive drumming, so that they can discover their own hidden spiritual resources, enhance their personal healing, and transform their lives.

Journeywork Circles with Soulfire Medicine are focused on achieving a deep meditative state to access internal spiritual resources for transformational self-healing. While these techniques are foundational to the Core Shamanic practices for accessing other spiritual realms and healing others, that is not the focus or purpose of these circles.

Each month’s Circle will include:

·      Beginning group drumming/rattling session to help shift consciousness

·      A short teaching on the Elemental Energy focus to work with for personal healing, derived from the Daoist cycles of the Five Elements through the year

·      Two prompts for unique journeywork sessions, with drumming provided

·      Debrief/journaling time and sharing opportunities for those who choose (there is no required sharing)

Participants will:

·      Bring a drum or rattle, yoga mat, journal, pen/pencil

·      Bring an eye covering of some kind that will block out light (just closing your eyes is not sufficient). Options include a thick cloth, sleep mask, scarf, bandana, MindFold, etc.

·      Wear comfortable clothing for lying down, and bring a blanket/pillow if required for your comfort

***Note: if you are new to Journeywork, please arrive 15 minutes early for a quick introduction.***

About Journeywork

Journeywork is a tool from the core shamanic practices taught by Dr. Michael Harner, world-renowned shaman and cultural anthropologist.

The word “shaman” comes from the Tungus word saman, meaning “the one who sees/knows”. Shamanism, in a variety of forms and under many names, has existed in every culture around the world for time immemorial.

Dr. Michael Harner dedicated his life to bringing shamanic practice back to western peoples who lost it through centuries of religious oppression. He was acknowledged as a powerful shaman by peoples around the around the world before his death, studying and receiving recognition from the Jivaro and Conibo peoples of the Amazon, the Coast Salish, Pomo, and Northern Paiute of western North America, the Inland Inuit and the Sami in the Arctic, the Tuvans of central Asia, and the assembled Siberian shamans of the Buriat people in Russia.

To bring shamanic practice back to the West, Dr. Harner developed the system of Core Shamanism, which consists of the universal, near-universal, and common features of shamanism that are not bound to any specific cultural group or perspective. By using this system, Western spiritual seekers can reacquire access to their rightful spiritual heritage via a path of direct revelation.

Training in Core Shamanism includes learning to alter your consciousness through classic non-drug techniques such as sonic driving (repetitive drumming) to discover your hidden spiritual resources, transform your life, and eventually learn how to help others. Core Shamanism does not focus on ceremonies or rituals connected to specific cultural practices, but rather on building individual relationship with one’s inner resources and compassionate helping spirits to navigate the space between worlds.

You can find more information about Core Shamanism by visiting shamanism.org

Chakras, Mythology and Astrology w/Johnny Barnett

Chakras, Mythology and Astrological Symbolism

CLASS DESCRIPTION

AstrologerJohnny Barnett leads us on a 2-hour exploration of the basic building blocks of the Human being - the chakras- uncovering along the way our true nature and purpose, and helping us navigate the complexities of being an infinite spirit in a physical body.

We’ll see each Chakra in light of it’s planetary companion, as each of the 7 traditional planets of astrology corresponds to a specific Chakra- “as above, so below”. We’ll see the correspondences with the gods an goddesses of Mythology who share their names with those planets- seeing in their stories the instinctive nature of ourselves and the 7 basic energies every human comes here to experience and express.

BIO

Johnny is an astrologer, author and intuitive and has been practicing astrology for 30+ years. His complementary studies in symbolism, mythology, religion, Jungian psychology, physics and the works of contemporary and recent thinkers such as Eckhart Tolle and Joseph Campbell serve to connect the dots of a seemingly chaotic world, showing us our magical, inspiring place within it.

Johnny currently tours the country presenting his talk called “Chakras, Mythology and Astrological Symbolism” and giving private readings.

Community Song Circle w/Lillie Lumina

Something special happens when we come together to sing. It is an ancient remembering of our communities gathering in circle, joining in one song, the repetition bringing us deeper into presence, transcending time and space. We lift our voices in joy, grief, and praise, and find that when we tune our voices together we tune into something bigger than ourselves. These songs remind us of our unique humanness, as well as our connection to all life- our belonging to the world. These are songs for everyone, regardless of singing experience.

Join us every third Thursday as we gather at The Well to sing as a community.

This month Lillie Lumina will guide the group in singing a variety of songs in the spirit of Liberation. You are also more than welcome to bring songs to teach the group! These circles take on a beautiful life of their own when we are all sharing together.

Suggested donation: $10-30
*no one turned away for lack of funds

Location: The Well
3 Louisiana Ave *please park at Ingles across the street.

We encourage you to arrive on time! I understand this is not possible for everyone- we still want you there! Please do your best

Shamanic Journey Circle w/ Randi Janelle

Exploring our consciousness and fostering relationships with our guides in the lower world, upper world, and middle worlds. Traveling in the tradition of Core Shamanism via sound. The live drum beat encourages the theta brain wave state--the liminal state of consciousness. Theta brain waves often occur when we're going to sleep or waking up, dreaming, and when we're meditating or deeply relaxed. This brain state is a gateway to dimensions of consciousness where we can meet and receive guidance from our power animals and teachers, where we can experience healing and discover more of our truth. Sharing and/or listening to another person's experience in the circle provides grounding, integration and grows our incredible, supportive community!

Feel free to bring a hand drum and learn to drum while journeying if you haven't already!

Snacks are provided for grounding and fellowship afterwards.

Eye of the Needle: toning breath silence retreat w/ Rev. Dale Allen Hoffman

a deeply experiential healing immersion

**This is a very special event that you do not want to miss!**

Retreat Info at https://daleallenhoffman.com/june-asheville-retreat

A unique and transformative experience, guided by Ancient Aramaic Wisdom Keeper and energetic healer Rev Dale Allen Hoffman. Rev Dale brings decades of wisdom, experience and study as he facilitates the exploration of ancient and indigenous energy resonance prayers, offering participants an opportunity to connect with the depths of vibration within themselves, akin to experiences of ancient mystery school initiates.

Our focus will be on utilizing the primal power of toning, breath and silence to peel back the layers of our thinking mind to allow the profound sentience of Cosmic Awareness to awaken and flower through us - AS us. We will repeatedly dance to the edge of waking consciousness to peer down into the depths of Cosmic Consciousness. Let's slip through the eye of the needle to that place of utter speechlessness - as one Divine, Loving Tribe."

This event is designed to immerse participants in a deeply experiential healing journey, combining ancient practices and modern tools to tap into the primal power of ancient Aramaic toning, breath, and silence.

Key elements of the retreat include:

  • The Primal Power of Aramaic Toning, Breath, and Silence: powerful tools for self-discovery and healing. These practices peel back the layers of the thinking mind, allowing participants to connect with the profound sentience of Cosmic Awareness within themselves.

  • Awakening Cosmic Consciousness: Participants will engage in activities such as ancient Aramaic vocal toning, chanting, buffalo hoop drumming, singing bowls, breathwork, and the use of the PYRADYM Crystal Particle Fountain. These modalities help our sacred souls dance to the edge of waking consciousness, exploring the depths of Cosmic Consciousness and experiencing profound transformation.

  • One Divine Love Tribe: We come together to experience unity and soul re-connection, as One Divine Love Tribe. The communal experience of slipping through the "eye of the needle" into a place of utter speechlessness underscores the shared journey towards self-discovery and transformation.

The "Eye of the Needle: toning breath silence retreat" offers a profound and mystical immersion, blending ancient wisdom with modern techniques to create a transformative experience for those seeking a deeper connection with themselves and the cosmic consciousness that surrounds and threads through us, AS us.   Join us in Asheville, North Carolina - The Appalachian City of Light!

Cost: sliding scale $20-$35

Date/Time: Sunday June 30, 1-3 PM

Through the vibrations of the ancient didgeridoo, various other instruments and the sounds of light language, you’ll be invited to relax into a sonic landscape to help you find your own inner clarity, inspiration and wisdom for these times.

"When you regain a sense of your life as a journey of discovery,

you return to rhythm with yourself"

~ John O'Donohue ~

This Sonic Immersion is an invitation to simply be with what is in the moment, the impermanence of our experience as sounds emerge and subside. And being ok with whatever arises, just as Rumi says: “… Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! …”

Together we will traverse a soundscape, created by the sound and vibrations of the ancient didgeridoo, crystal singing bowls, drums, vocal expression via Light Language and several other instruments. Some of which will be played close to or over your body if you do like some more intense, activating vibrations.

May this journey assist you finding your own inner clarity, inspiration and wisdom for these times.

Bring whatever makes you comfortable to lay down (or sit) for an extended period of time and allowing you to fully enjoy this journey: a mat, blanket, pillow, eye cover to name a few things.

Listening at The Well: Simon Posford

We host a free ongoing series called "Listening at the Well" where we invite people to sit together to listen to music, highlighting some of the important works by a specific artist each month.
This month we are exploring the music of producer Simon Posford, best known for his work with Shpongle, as well as his pioneering psytrance solo project Hallucinogen and his band, Younger Brother.

Posford's first album, Twisted, released under the name Hallucinogen in 1995, is considered one of the pioneering records of the psychedelic trance genre.

But it was Shpongle, his collaboration with Raja Ram, that would lead to widespread popularity, starting with their debut album, "Are You Shpongled?" in 1998. Their unique blend of world music, psychedelic trance, and ambient laid the foundation for the psybient genre.

Posford has also created music under several other names, including Celtic Cross (with Martin Glover of Killing Joke and Saul Davies, the violinist for James) and more recently his duo, Younger Brother with Benji Vaughan (aka Prometheus).

His music spans multiple genres and shows a mastery of musical production and sound design.

We will listen to (and dance to) tracks from throughout his repertoire.

As always, this is a free event (although we welcome donations to the space).
______________________________________________________
Through this series we will explore a wide range of genres, with the hope of deepening our appreciation of music within a communal experience.
So often we only listen to music in isolation, either on earbuds or in our cars alone. But music has a profound power to bring people together, and by gathering intentionally to listen, we hope to bring back some of the lost spirit of music as a force of social connection.
There will be room to dance, sit, or lay down, and a quality sound system to listen on. In some cases we will play music videos and clips of interviews with the artist.

The Well is thrilled to welcome Infinite Third, aka Billy Mays III, who will take us on a deep musical journey.

Tickets are $10-20 sliding scale, but no one turned away for lack of funds.

https://infinitethird.com/

Since 2009, Billy Mays III has been conjuring endless layers of ethereal guitar, primal beats, pulsing drones, and electronic noise which all fervently build to form walls of auditory emotion. Rooted in visceral spontaneity, as though calling forth ancient energies and abstracting them personally for each listener, Infinite Third's live set is a deeply-realized vision of sonic and spiritual exploration; an experience that's equal parts transcendent and intimate. His unwavering commitment to improvisation has been the foundation for a unique sound which continues to evolve with each new appearance, whether that's a thunderous live performance, a long-form public ambient installation, or another collection of studio recordings to add to a prolific discography. Intense yet gentle, focused yet wandering, dreamlike yet grounded in reality, the world of Infinite Third is a mind-altering place that's never the same twice but somehow always feels familiar.

Kirtana (Sanskrit: कीर्तन; IAST: Kīrtana), also rendered as Kirtan or Keertan, is a Sanskrit word that means "narrating, reciting, telling, describing" of an idea or story, specifically in Indian religions. It also refers to a genre of devotional performance arts, connoting a musical form of narration or shared recitation, particularly of spiritual or religious ideas, native to the Indian subcontinent. A person performing kirtan is known as a kirtankara (or kirtankar, कीर्तनकार).

Why Do We Chant Kirtan? Chanting kirtan is a devotional practice that helps to uplift the mind, open the heart and bring inner peace. It is one of the fastest, easiest and most joyful ways to achieve peace of mind. The mantras are mystical universal sounds that resonate at our chakra level and are believed to remove stagnant and heavy energies.
